I don’t recall where I first encountered the writings of Daniel Meyer but I do remember the first thing of his that I read. It was shortly after getting my current ride in 2005 and was a hilarious short story entitled Neighborhood Hazard (Or: Why the Cops Won’t Patrol Brice Street). After cleaning my keyboard and recovering from 2nd degree coffee burns to my nasal passages, I had to read more. I purchased a copy of Life Is a Road, The Soul Is a Motorcycle and devoured it in one sitting. Finally, I had found an author who could express my feelings about motorcycling with passion and humor.

Meyer’s latest is Life Is a Road, It’s About the Ride. The book is the fourth in the “Life Is a Road” series and in it Meyer continues to write eloquently about motorcycling and the spirit that drives those who ride. The stories cover the full range of human emotion: love, lust, rage, sadness, terror, joy; and that’s just one of the stories! Meyer speaks to the ideals of the motorcyclist: independence, honor, and passion.

From Life Is a Road, It’s About the Ride:

“It is the experience that drives me. Excitement, passion and lust for the journey are parts of my core. I learned long ago that life is a road, and it’s how we travel that road and what we see and do along it that define us, not some intended destination at the of it. It’s really not about life - it’s not about getting there. It’s about - it’s about what we do along the way. I smiled. Yeah. That’s it. I did know.

I pushed open the door and winced at the cold blast of air that cascaded into store. I had an answer for her, but I wasn’t sure what she’d make of it. Why do I do it? As I forced my way into the harsh, darkening, windswept evening I stopped and said over my shoulder with a grin, “It’s about the ride babe. It’s all about the ride.”

Meyer stays close to his audience. He operates his own website and blog, lifeisaroad.com, where he shares not just his motorcycling stories, he frequently posts portions of books that he is working on, but his life. Everything from his pets to a surprise kitchen remodel for his wife. He happily autographs his books on request. His books are available wherever you buy books or directly from the author at lifeisaroad.com.
