Hitting on Fred Phelps
By John Davis • Jul 27th, 2006 • Category: Northwest Cycle News HeadlinesRemember Fred Phelps? I wish I didn’t. He’s the head of the Westboro Baptist Church, the folks who protest at soldiers funerals and thereby inspired the formation of the Patriot Guard Riders. Phelps’ views are so repugnant that I will not provide a link to his site. I’m sure you can find it on your own; but be warned, even the URL is not safe for work.
Anyway, I found this hilarious video of a UK journalist interviewing Phelps at a recent protest. Watch Phelps squirm when the interviewer gets a little “friendly” with him. It’s priceless. (Warning: Some of the language and some of the signs are not safe for work.)
In related news, the ACLU have agreed to represent Phelps and his “church” in suing states that have passed laws banning protests near funerals. My colleague AngryBob over at motorcyclebloggers.com sums up my views on the matter. He even got a reply from Mrs. Phelps herself.
